La storia avrà luogo in un mondo sotterraneo in cui i tunnel si diramano dappertutto. Anche se vivono in spazi oscuri e confinati e si indossano abiti di protezione, le persone vivono vite piacevoli e tranquille. A Patema, la principessa di uno dei villaggi del sottosuolo, piace esplorare i tunnel. Il suo luogo preferito è una "zona pericolosa", interdetta agli abitanti del suo villaggio e, sebbene lei lo sappia, la sua curiosità non può tenerla distante. In più nessuno ha mai spiegato di che tipo di pericolo si tratti. Ma un giorno, in uno dei suoi viaggi in quei luoghi, Patema si trova davanti ad eventi inaspettati: dove i segreti nascosti vengono alla luce, la storia inizia a dischiudersi.
