1964. Ed e Lorraine Warren indagano sull'infestazione in un negozio di antiquariato in cui sembra essere coinvolto un antico specchio. Lorraine, incinta, entra in contatto con esso, venendo investita da una visione inquietante sul bambino che porta in grembo, tanto da indurle il travaglio. Ed la trasporta d'urgenza in ospedale ma durante il parto una figura demoniaca aleggia sopra il soffitto, influenzando negativamente la nascita della bambina tanto che, quando Lorraine la dà alla luce, la coppia deve dolorosamente accettarne la morte. Tuttavia, grazie alle sue preghiere, Lorraine riesce miracolosamente a ridare vita alla bambina, che viene chiamata Judy. Ventidue anni dopo, nel 1986, la famiglia Smurl si trasferisce a West Pittston, in Pennsylvania. Jack e Janet Smurl condividono la casa con i genitori di Jack, Mary e John, insieme alle loro quattro figlie: Dawn, Heather e le gemelle Carin e Shannon. In occasione della cresima di Heather, la giovane riceve come regalo dal nonno proprio l’antico specchio con cui i Warren avevano avuto a che fare, il quale reca ancora la crepa causata da Lorraine dopo essere entrata in contatto con esso. Quella stessa sera, la famiglia comincia già a sperimentare i primi fenomeni paranormali, tra cui le candeline della torta di Heather che vengono spente da una forza invisibile e il lampadario che crolla dal soffitto, mancando per poco la stessa Heather.

In 1964, an expecting Ed and Lorraine Warren investigate a haunting involving an antique mirror at a curio shop. Lorraine collapses upon seeing a vision of an entity and her unborn child, and goes into labor. Ed speeds Lorraine to the hospital, but the baby is stillborn. However, Lorraine's prayers revive the baby, whom she names Judy. Twenty-two years later, the Smurl family moves to West Pittston, Pennsylvania. Jack and Janet Smurl share the home with Jack's parents, Mary and John, along with their four daughters: Dawn, Heather, and twins Carin and Shannon and their dog, Simon. For Heather's confirmation ceremony, John gifts her the antique mirror. During dinner, a kitchen ceiling light suddenly crashes down, narrowly missing Heather.
