È il 1992 e nella vita di Mulligan il taglio a spazzola è un lontano passato. Nel corso degli anni i suoi capelli sono cresciuti molto, fino alle orecchie, e anche una folta barba è cresciuta, tutta di un bianco uniforme. Ora il suo viso potrebbe appartenere a un professore emerito o a un anziano boscaiolo. Eppure il suo sguardo, il suo senso dell'umorismo, il suo stile – e chiunque abbia assistito a un suo concerto può confermarlo – tutto è rimasto vivo: come se il taglio a spazzola non fosse più nella sua testa, ma da qualche parte nella sua anima.
