Mentre indaga su una serie di morti misteriose, il sergente Ben Peterson (James Whitmore) trova una giovane ragazza (Sandy Descher) che non è in grado di parlare. Mentre Peterson unisce le forze con l'agente dell'FBI Robert Graham (James Arness) e lo scienziato Dr. Harold Medford (Edmund Gwenn), scopre che tutti gli incidenti sono dovuti a formiche giganti che sono state mutate dalle radiazioni atomiche.
