il film segue le vicende di una cittadina di Wheelsy invasa da un mostro viscido e terrificante. La prima vittima è Grant Grant (Michael Rooker), un ricco imprenditore che, mentre se la sta spassando con la sua amante Brenda (Brenda James), viene attaccato dall’alieno che gli spara un pungiglione nel cervello e si impossessa del suo corpo. Nonostante l'uomo sia posseduto, non ha perso né la personalità né la memoria, ma comincia a trasformarsi in un terribile mostro con i tentacoli.Giorno dopo giorno si verificano strane sparizioni di animali e la moglie di Grant, Starla (Elizabeth Banks), comincia a notare delle stranezze in suo marito: oltre a disgustosi mutamenti, l'uomo è sfuggente e la tiene a distanza. Una notte, però, Grant la infetta con i suoi tentacoli e le fa mangiare tantissima carne all'interno di un fienile. Nel frattempo lo sceriffo Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) mette su una squadra per uccidere il mostro, ma quando arrivano nel fienile capiscono che si tratta di una trappola: Brenda, che intanto è diventata obesa, esplode sprigionando un’enorme quantità di lumache aliene che infettano tutti i presenti. Riuscirà a salvarsi qualcuno nella cittadina di Wheelsy?
