Ambientato tra gli anni Ottanta e il Duemila, il film racconta di una influente famiglia vicentina composta da Maria (Valentina Bellè), dal marito Osvaldo (Paolo Pierobon) e dalla gemella di quest’ultimo, Erminia (Sonia Bergamasco), affermata pianista. La loro vita viene sconvolta da un evento imprevedibile. Maria mette al mondo Rebecca. La neonata, per il resto normalissima e di grande bellezza, presenta un vistosa macchia purpurea che le segna metà del viso. Quella macchia che niente può cancellare e rende i genitori impotenti e infelici, diventa per Maria un’ossessione tale da precipitarla nel rifiuto delle sue responsabilità di madre. L’intera adolescenza di Rebecca sarà segnata dalla vergogna e dal desiderio di nascondersi dagli altri. Ma fin da piccola rivela straordinarie capacità musicali. La zia Erminia riconosce il suo talento: Rebecca diventa sua allieva e il bisogno di cancellare la “macchia” la spingerà ad affermarsi attraverso la musica.
