Nel 1935, il maestro Antoni Benaiges accetta l’incarico come insegnante in un piccolo villaggio nella provincia di Burgos, in Spagna. Qui il giovane maestro instaura un intenso legame con i suoi studenti, bambini tra i sei e i dodici anni, ai quali fa una promessa: portarli a vedere il mare per la prima volta nella loro vita. Ma i metodi di insegnamento innovativi del maestro non incontrano il consenso del governo di allora, che inizia una dura opposizione nei confronti dell’insegnante e dei suoi ideali. 75 anni dopo, la nipote di uno di quegli alunni, ricostruisce la meravigliosa storia vera nascosta dietro la promessa del maestro. Una storia di coraggio, dedizione e resistenza che rischiava di rimanere sepolta dalle ombre del regime franchista.
