Band-leader americana degli anni '30-1940, musicista jazz, cantante, cantautore e poli-talento EmCee famoso per il suo stile di "canto di gatti".
L'orchestra di Calloway ruotò come una "banda di casa" con quella di Duke Ellington al famoso Cotton Club di Harlem attraverso l'era del proibizionismo. Il suo abile senso della veste "zoot-suit" e le abili routine di canzoni e d'orchestra vaudeville lo hanno reso un intrattenitore estremamente popolare. Il suo "moonwalking" precedette quello di Michael Jackson di circa mezzo secolo.
